Only 30 days to go!

Registrations filling fast and closing Feb 1st

Dear Erik,

Only a month to go and so much is going on. For those boat owners, volunteers, clubs, associations and commercial partners that have got onboard – thanks. This is a community event and our community has come together.

In the next 2 weeks we'll be closing the door on boat registrations and commercial partners. Sorry it has to be done some time and 3 weeks out gives us almost enough time to get everything in order.

Again thanks for your support. Please take a look at the delivery voyage onboard One & All and do whatever it is you need to do to be at the Melbourne Wooden Boat Festival, Feb 20-21, Docklands.

Mark Bergin
Festival Director

City of Melbourne Get Behind the Event

The City of Melbourne events department has sponsored the event to the tune of $125,000. Their support is to cover staging costs in Docklands and help fund the other costs associated with staging a major event.

Our organising team have been delighted at the financial and organisational support - well done City of Melbourne.

FEATURED BOATS

Sayonara

Sayonara

Sayonara, Japanese for goodbye, was built by Mr G F Garrard, then commodore of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria (RYCV) at a time when the largest yachts in Australia were to be seen on Port Phillip.
Designed by W Fife of Scotland as a fast cruising yawl with high bulwarks, she was built by Mr A McFarlane of Birkinhead, Adelaide, and launched November 1897. Her first major race was sailed by Mr A P Agg of the Brighton Yacht Club in the Intercolonial Regatta held on Hobson’s Bay, February 1898, where she defeated all opposition including the then undefeated South Australian Champion, Alexa to win the major prize of $140.

Sayonara underwent a million-dollar refit in 2000 and has since competed regularly in Classic Yacht Association racing in Port Phillip and has recently returned from a Classic campaign in Sydney Harbour.

Avian # 96

Avian # 96

Jack Savage built the Tumlaren Avian at Williamstown in 1938 of Huon Pine which was abundant in those days. Avian raced consistently and successfully under a number of owners and her name is etched on all of the major Tumlaren trophies in the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron.

In 2009 she completed a major restoration. Totally re-decked and a number of frames and planks were replaced to give her another seventy years of life and pleasure to her custodian.

The Jet

The Jet

Built in 1959 by Jack Kenner who designed her, this single-seat hard chine vintage racer is coming down from her home in Narara, NSW. At under 12’ she is the smallest of the range of power craft coming to the Festival.
